Re-Introducing Myself - hey!

It’s been a little while since I properly introduced myself so firstly welcome to my blog, I'm Mel and I founded The Lifestyle VA two years ago because I figured desk jobs, glass ceilings and capped potential were not for me!

I'm an active day-to-day Virtual Assistant, specialising in admin tasks and serving awesome female clients - innovators, creators, coaches and badass businesswomen. My job is awesome and my business has grown and become more successful this year than ever, so I took on a team member this year to help me work on our wonderful clients.

Secondly, I teach! I pass on everything I know about becoming a VA to anyone who wants to learn how to become a VA, a digital freelancer, work online. I love training and empowering women to fulfill their potential.

I’ve had an eventful, rich and varied working life and have SO many stories, but here are some random things you might not know about me;

  • Before launching the Lifestyle VA I actually spent 5 years as EA to the Chairman & CEO of much loved British stationery brand Paperchase.

  • Before that, I spent 15 years working in the music industry behind the scenes.

  • Jay-Z once interviewed me for a job as his traveling PA. Ironically, I got fired from the job before for not personally getting on a plane to hand my boss his forgotten passport because Fedex wasn’t fast enough.

  • I stood next to Stevie Wonder at an event for about 15 minutes once and just could not get a word out to even say hello. Unexpectedly overwhelmed!

  • At 28 I had my own marketing consultancy company, with clients like Kelly Rowland from Destiny's Child and awesome singer Kelis.

  • I've done fashion PR too, most proud of working with British designer Wale Adeyemi, he is so gifted and so lovely too.

I absolutely, categorically, ridiculously love my job!!

Our lives are such a great big, beautiful tapestry of events and experiences that make up who we are, the one thing I’ve learnt is that it’s ok if your life has not taken a straight path to where you are now. I grew up in a house where my Mum told me to “always have many strings to your bow and you’ll never go hungry”. I’ve always had a day job, a side job, another project, so it’s been… colourful!

Feel like sharing a random nugget about yourself? I'd love to hear! Go on..... 😉
